Girl trouble... and boy... Help?

Back in '09 I came back to school after the summer hols, to find a girl liked me, I realy like her, I thought she would never go out with me. I was flirting like mad and happy she loved me and told me she did. But then the upsetting thing happened. I lost her, my "mate" stole her. they began going out. for the past 6 months then she had an emotional brake-down and told me that HE was being nervous around her in public. It's like getting something new and not sharing or showing. He was jealous of her talking to other boys and over-protective so I told her some advice, without saying "leave him" and then I got fed up and told her she was being selfish, because I was the one turned down for him and she was expecting me to sort out her relationship. She said she was sorry and thanked me for being there for her. Subsequently (a week or so later) she dumped him. He now blames me for it ALL because I helped her through it, thats basically it... and oh yeah I LOVE HER don't forget that. So.... He is single and pissed off, she is single and upset and i love her and want to go out with her they have been broken up for like 3 days now and i'm don't want to ask her out yet, because that is bad. HELP
