Did Christian Bale learn Spanish for his role in Harsh Times?

I've never seen the film, but I will take this opportunity to say what an amazing actor he is, and how under-appreciated he is in the Hollywood community. He and Edward Norton are my favorite actors. And both are sooo hot!
